Highlights of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017

Heading this year’s subject wise university rankings are most of the top notch universities of the world. Across a total of 46 subjects, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University both dominate with 12 and 15 number one rankings, respectively. The Oxford University is the only other university to lead the ranking list in more than one subject.

Apart from the above, 4 other universities from UK rank as global best in specific subjects. Loughborough University is ranked the joint-best university for sports-related subjects while the University of Sussex tops the ranking list for development studies beating Harvard University.

This year, the University of Cambridge, UK, has found its place in the top 10 rankings in most number of subjects. None other institution in the world ranks in as many subjects as the Cambridge University. University of Stanford, University of Oxford and University of California, Berkeley are other universities that feature most in the global top 10’s.

The subject ranking in 2017 includes rankings for five different broad subject areas: engineering & technology, social sciences & management, arts & humanities, natural sciences and life sciences & medicine. 4 new subjects namely theology, divinity & religious studies , anatomy & physiology, sports-related subjects and hospitality & leisure management have been added and more universities have been incorporated in this year’s list.
