Overview
Located in Australia, surrounded by exotic landscapes of the tropics, James Cook University is dedicated to producing world class research that has already been recognized internationally. It has a top 2 percentile score in the rankings of tertiary schools by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Students from all over the world studying in these premises enjoy the sweet surroundings that have not just the wonderful landscape of the beautifully built campus but also the Great Barrier Reef, the savannahs and the tropics!
Relevant to its tropical background it conducts research in tropical ecology, marine sciences, tropical medicine and global warming.
Campus
With its main campus located in North Queensland, JCU is bound to offer you beautiful landscapes. Tropical northern Queensland is remarkably extraordinary to whatever remains of Australia, and potentially the world. The UN's World Heritage Convention concurs to this point. Both the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforests are incorporated on the World Heritage List for their regular qualities. There is no place else on the planet where two World Heritage districts exist next to each other.
In total, it has three campuses in Cairns, Townsville and one international campus in Singapore.
Townsville – Spread across an area of 38 hectare, this campus has 11500 students living within its premises. It sports residences for student and faculty, entertainment centers for students like bars and cafes and academic buildings.
Cairns – The campus has rainforests of three of its sides that provide spectacular views. It has 4000 students living on premises and offers all the basic facilities required.
Singapore – this campus was started recently in 2003. JCU Singapore has done so well in the short time of its existence that it has achieved the Edu Trust Star awarded by the Singapore government.

There is no on-campus accommodation available in Cairns as of now. However, construction has begin and it should be available by 2018.
