University of Kent was set up in 1965. It is a public research university and recognized as a plate glass university. It is based in Kent, United Kingdom and operates with the motto of ?Whom to serve is to reign?. University of Kent is affiliated with Universities UK, Santander Network, EDA, ACU, and Eastern ARC Universities at Medway.

This university is ranked in worldwide at position #80 by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, #46 by the QS ranking. And at national level university is at #22 by The Complete ranking, #16 by The Guardian ranking and #30 by Times/Sunday Times.


This university has three campuses.

The main campus of this university is Canterbury campus which covers 300 acres (1.2 km2) it houses over 5,000 students and is in an elevated position just over two miles (3 km) from the city centre. The buildings of this campus includes Gulbenkian arts complex, Foyer, cafe bar and meeting place for students, staff and the general public. The entertainment part of this campus includes Jazz at Five, The Chortle Student Comedy Awards, Theater Shows, and Amateur shows. Campus also facilitates in tennis and squash courts, hockey and football pitches, a gymnasium, a cardio theatre, a dance studio, a multi-purpose sports hall and a Fair trade cafe. The campus library contains over a million items in stock including books, journals, videos, DVDs, and archive materials like a full text of The Times from 1785 onwards. It receives 800,000 visits a year and it open for 24/7.

Medway Campus is aimed at increasing more and more participation in higher education in the Medway Towns. This campus is joined with the other educational institutes.

Tonbridge Campus is collaborated with Kent Business School and Kent Innovation and Enterprise.

Student Facilities

University of Kent has a community radio station?CSR 97.4FM in which students do live broadcasting from the studios.

Kent University has the KTV (Kent Television) which has live broadcasting facilities with nearly 200,000 views. It is run by the volunteers and aims to provide informative televisual content and regular entertaining shows.

The students union is officially known as ?Kent Union?. The union is run by five elected full time officers, a Board of trustees, part-time student officers and 'lay' members of the local community. The students run shops on campus, Parkwood bar Woody?s, ?Rutherfood bar?, Parkwood Essentials and Nightclub ?The Venue?.

There is also a university student newspaper named InQuire and online news website Content of both is focused on campus issues and national news that affects students. Newspaper is published in every two weeks.


This university has four residential halls for the students to live in,

  • Darwin Houses which has a set of 26 housing students.
  • Becket Court has 40 luxury rooms.
  • Tyler Court which has three blocks of halls of residence. In which Block A is for postgraduates and Block B and C is for undergraduates.
  • Parkwood is a mini student village which has 262 two-storey houses, apartment complex, en-suite fitted rooms grouped into four, five and six bedroom flats.

Minimum of 10 minutes of walking distance all the residential halls are available from the main campus.
