Coventry’s Friends of the War Memorial Park – a group committed to promoting, developing and maintaining the park would like the public to back their new campaign to have a bandstand built. The Friends are working with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Coventry University to hold a competition in which the university’s architecture and design students come up with ideas for the proposed bandstand, which the public can vote for. 21 teams entered the contest with the final six shortlisted designs announced on 11th November by a judging panel made up of representatives from the Friends and expert lecturers from the university. Visitors to this website can view the shortlisted designs and can vote for their favourite design. There will also be opportunities to get a closer look at the drawings and models produced by the students at a series of roving exhibitions taking place in the city throughout January. The public vote will remain open until 31 January and the plan is that the winning design as chosen by the people of Coventry will form the basis of a fundraising campaign that the Friends will take forward to get the bandstand built.
