A collaboration between the University and Northumbria Police, ‘Suspects, Secrets and Lies’, was created to teach young people about the realities of crime detection and forensic science and encourage them to consider studying related courses at degree level.
The ‘whodunit’ took place on Northumbria’s city campus and involved pupils from North Durham Academy, Heworth Grange Comprehensive School, Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy, Joseph Swan Academy, and Whickham School. The teenagers were given a unique insight into the realities of forensic science, the way crime is represented by the media, and how evidence is used in sentencing.
